- Utah COVID-19 Cases reported by Utah Department of Health as of today: 2,102(+126) confirmed cases total, number of people tested 40,762, positive rate 5.16%; Hospitalization 183(+15), 8.71% of the total cases; death cases 17(+4), death rate 0.81%; recovered cases 26 (data from 1point3acres.com). The growth of coronavirus cases in Utah has been mainly following subexponential growth trend (p=0.63): http://www.castut.org/covid-19/utah0410en.png. The average growth is 8.30% per day for the last 12 days, and 5.53% for the last 6 days. - Recently some businesses have been told they need to pay a fee before applying for small business federal relief. The fact is that there are no fees associated with applying for the COVID-19 small business federal relief programs ̶̶ including Paycheck Protection Program, Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program, SBA Express Bridge Loans, and SBA Debt Relief. - At today’s press conference, Dr. Dunn, State Epidemiologist, reported that two of the 4 new deaths are from two different long term care facilities; another two deaths are from hospitals;all 4 cases are male and 60 years or over Again, she calls for those who have MILD symptoms of cough OR fever OR short of breath, should be tested, because Utah has full testing capacity now. Dr. Dunn also mentioned that UDOH is planning with CDC to conduct randomized tests in communities to fully assess the COVID-19 spreads.
- Starting 12:37 p.m on Apr 10, the State of Utah has activated a geotargeted electronic alert at Utah’s borders. Motorists will receive a text message asking them to fill out a COVID-19 declaration when crossing the border. The form takes about five minutes to fill out. The commerce will not be impacted.
- During the White House news briefing on Apr 09, the Trump administration uncovered the plan to provide aid for more industries and groups, including airlines, energy, business loans and financial aid for college students. Also, the federal drive-thru testing points will transfer the management to state governments. Federal government will continue to provide professionals and supplies. For the reopening of the economy in the upcoming future, the government will establish a necessary ‘health standard’.
- The Utah Chinese community continued to respond actively to the Alliance’s call. Led by Margraret Yee, advisor of the Alliance, and Kin Wu, the recently-organized Salt Lake Tai-Shan Chinese WeChat Group raised funds and bought surgical masks from China. They donated 1,000 masks to Salt Lake City’s Police Department on March 27, and 4,000 masks to St. Mark’s Hospital Senior Health Center on April 8. On Apr. 10, Volunteers including Dr. Dengpan Dong, CAST-UT Secretary General donated supplies to the Bear Lake Health Department, on behalf of the Utah Chinese Alliance, and the Logan Chinese Community, including: 330 KN95 masks and 330 surgical masks made in China, and 50 N95 masks made in the US.
