Utah COVID-19 Cases reported by Utah Department of Health as of today: 4,233(+110) confirmed cases total, number of people tested 100,195, positive rate 4.22%; Hospitalization 349(+4), 8.24% of the total cases; death cases 41(+0), death rate 0.97%; estimated recovered cases 1,641(+73). The growth of coronavirus cases in Utah has been mainly following subexponential growth trend (p=0.48): http://www.castut.org/covid-19/utah0427en.png. The average growth is 4.27% per day for the last 14 days, and 4.25% for the last 7 days.   3. At the press briefing, Dr. Dunn, the state epidemiologist, said that UDOH is working on increasing contact tracing by expanding the back-tracking duration from 2 days prior to the symptom onset to back-tracking 7 days. Utah is entering the “plateau phase” of COVID-19 case increase.  UDOH is working with hospitals to investigate if COVID-19 was in the state sooner than expected and with Intermountain to re-test samples that tested negative for the flu. Non-essential travel is still not encouraged.
  4. Utah Leads Together 2.0 – the state roadmap for recovery, includes an Industry Summary of Color-coded Health Guidance for 9 industries: Restaurants & Food Service; Retail (Including grocery stores & pharmacies); Hotel, Tourism, & Accommodations; Events & Entertainment; Personal Services; Home Repair; Gyms; Construction/ Manufacturing; and Day Care. For example, when an area is in Orange color at moderate risk, grocery stores  or pharmacies must create safe environment for customers & staff with frequent reminders on distancing and hygiene.   5. WHO clarified the previous report on ‘immunity passport’. WHO estimated most of the COVID-19 patients will develop antibody and provide protection after recovering from infections. However, to what extent and how long the immunity will be effective remain unclear. WHO is working closely with global scientists to understand the reaction of human body to coronavirus.
  6. University of Utah hospital is asking all patients who have their own masks, to wear them for appointments.
